Cedar Rapids police report that one person was injured in a two-vehicle crash that left one of the cars on a sidewalk late this morning.
The accident occurred at the intersection of Second Avenue and 12 Street SE around 11:35 a.m. Firefighters called to the scene had to remove the door of one of the vehicles to transport the injured 70-year-old driver to the hospital.
According to Sgt. Tim Camp, the 70-year-old woman was heading southbound on 12th Street SE and did not stop for traffic at a stop sign. When she entered the intersection, she was struck by another car heading westbound on Second Avenue and her car was pushed up onto the sidewalk.
The woman was conscious and talking at the scene and did not appear to have suffered serious injuries. The driver of the other car, a 36-year-old Cedar Rapids man, was not hurt. “She just came past the stop sign, darted out and I hit her,” he said. “I tried to brake, but she was already there.”
Police said the woman would be cited for failing to yield.
Luckily nobody was seriously injured in this accident, but the negligence of one of the drivers in this accident is directly to blame for its occurence.
