The number of traffic-related deaths this year is slightly lower compared to last year’s numbers, according to a report released on Wednesday, November 27.

Compared to last year, the number of road-related deaths recorded fell by 42 this year, with a total of  280 thus far compared to last year’s 322, Iowa State Patrol Sgt. Scott Bright said. He also stated that he believes most people who were involved in serious accidents this year survived because of the road improvements made on the Iowa Interstates, like the cable lines that were installed in the median lane to prevent vehicle from crossing to the other lane. Sgt. Bright also noted that increased road enforcement, educated drivers, and advance safety and design developments in vehicles helped ccount for the dip in traffic deaths.
