Police suspect abusive behavior led to a toddler’s severe burns

Posted on Saturday, November 23rd, 2013 at 4:44 pm

2-year-old Tavion Moore was taken to Iowa City hospital after sustaining severe second and third degree burns on his hands. Tavion was under the care of his fathers girlfriend when the incident occurred.

The girlfriend of the boy’s father said the burn was an accident caused by the dishwasher. After examining the burns, Sgt. Steve Woody said that they appear to be signs of abuse. According to a medical professional, the burns were caused by extremely hot water or oil.

Extra care and protection must be extended to children since they are not able to fully protect themselves from hazardous situations.
