Types of Safety Gear for Motorcycle Riders
By wearing certain items when on your bike you can greatly increase your personal safety while on the road. These include:
- Head gear: Helmets are designed to prevent concussions and head trauma. They save lives and prevent permanent injuries.
- Footwear: You should wear sturdy shoes that completely cover your feet and ankles. Ideally this will be leather boots, but athletic shoes can work as well.
- Protective eyewear: Because motorcycles do not have windshields it is important to have protective eyewear which will keep bugs and other debris from impairing the vision of the operator.
- Jackets and Pants: When riding a motorcycle being covered up is important. Having think material, such as leather, covering your arms and legs will prevent abrasions should you be involved in an accident.
Even with protective gear it is possible to be the victim of an accident when other drivers are being reckless. However, using the right equipment can dramatically reduce the injuries you may suffer in the event of a collision.
