15 million defective surge protectors recalled

Posted on Thursday, October 10th, 2013 at 10:02 am

Schneider Electric IT Corp voluntarily recalled millions of defective electrical surge protectors due to a risk of overheating and causing fires, according to Reuters on Thursday, October 3.

The company is recalling 15 million “SurgeArrest” series 7 and 8 surge protectors sold in the U.S. after receiving reports in which the defective devices overheated and caused fire. About $1.7 million worth of damages affected home and medical properties, and 13 people suffered from burn injuries and inhalation of smoke.

Consumers are advised to avoid using the recalled electrical devices that were sold from 1993 until 2002 and return it immediately for a
product replacement.
