Meat products with possible contaminants recalled

Posted on Thursday, October 31st, 2013 at 6:57 pm

The U.S. Department of Agriculture recalled over 22,000 pounds of food due to the possible presence of Listeria monocytogene bacteria. This bacteria can cause Listeriosis, an infection that is potentially fatal. Symptoms of Listeriosis include fever, muscle aches,  and digestive complications.

The products recalled include chicken salad, ham salad, potato salad, and barbecue beans with beef. The products were distributed widely across the United States and Canada.

The contamination was detected upon a food retesting ordered by the Food and Drug Administration and conducted by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency.

So far, there have not been any reported cases of illness relating to the recalled products. Federal agencies are still urging consumers that have bought the products to return them immediately.

Becoming ill from contaminated foods and other products can cause an array of health complications. If you have encountered a harmful product in the Cedar Rapids area, contact the Leehey Olson Law, P.C., at (319) 294-4424 to find out what we can do for you.
