Cedar Rapids Child Abuse Attorneys

Day care facilities are intended to provide working parents a safe and fun environment to leave their children during the day. Tragically, these environments are not always as safe as one might hope. Child abuse, whether at the hands of a childcare facility employee or a visitor on the premises is wholly inexcusable, but it happens with unnerving regularity.

The physical abuse of a child is never permissible, and it is especially upsetting when it takes place at the hands of those who are supposed to care for your child. If you suspect that your child has been the victim of child abuse in a day care facility, a civil lawsuit may be appropriate. Signs of Child Abuse

Children often struggle to verbally communicate their feelings or to relay the events of the day when they are picked up by their parents. This can make it difficult for them to inform parents of abuse, if they are even developmentally capable of recognizing that they have been abused. Accordingly, it is important for parents to remain alert for signs and symptoms of child abuse, including:

  • Extreme changes in mood or unusual behavior
  • Exhibiting fear or anger towards adults
  • Suddenly becoming uncomfortable with physical contact
  • Unexplained markings such as bruises, cuts, burns, or other injuries
  • Becoming overly passive or withdrawn
  • Seeming on edge or irrationally scared

There are many forms of child abuse that can occur in a day care center, each with devastating physical and emotional consequences. There is no excuse for physical, emotional, psychological, or mental attacks on an innocent child.
