Montana nursing home under scrutiny for providing substandard care

Posted on Friday, May 6th, 2011 at 11:32 am

A nursing home in Red Lodge, Montana is currently being scrutinized by the state and federal government after reports surfaced showing that the home provided substandard care to its residents.

The Department of Public Health and Human Services, who investigated the home in December, found that the home failed to prevent ulcers and and bed sores in its residents. The investgation also found that several of the home's residents were suffering from malnutrition and were not given proper medication.

If the home is cited for these offenses, it could be forced to pay a fine and will lose funding from Medicaid and Medicare. This would cause a problem for 76 percent of the home's residents, who rely on Medicare and Medicaid to receive medical treatment at the home.
