Seasoned journalist Michael Hastings who wrote for BuzzFeed and contributed to other news sources was killed in a car accident in Los Angeles on June 18.

Details confirming the death of the 33-year-old, who wrote the controversial feature article that brought about the resignation of General Stanley McChrystal, were laregely unavailable after editor-in-chief of BuzzFeed Ben Smith announced his death. However, an incident report on June 17 coming from the Los Angeles police said a fiery crash killed a man near Hollywood. The car reportedly caught fire after it slammed into a palm tree. The driver was so badly burned that authorities had to first determine the identity of the man before confirming any details.

Hastings, who was a contributing editor for Rolling Stone Magazine, also worked for GQ and Newsweek magazines.

The legal team at Leehey Olson Law, P.C., expresses their sincere condolences to the family and friends of Hastings who suffered this loss.
