Causes of Brachial and Erb’s Palsy
The birthing process is strenuous on both mother and child. There are plenty of hurdles to get through without the threat of medical malpractice at the hands of doctors and nurses, but such negligence is an all too common occurrence.
Causes of brachial and Erb’s palsy include:
- Exceptionally difficult or strenuous birth
- Improper use of forceps
- Vacuum birth
- Breeched birth
Any of these situations can cause the newborn’s head and neck to be pulled to one side during the birthing process. When this happens, the nerves in the upper arm and shoulder are damaged in a way that affects the use of the limb. Sometimes this condition can be reversed with time and physical therapy, but in other cases it is a permanent disability.
If your baby was injured during delivery, contact the Cedar Rapids Erb’s palsy attorneys of Leehey Olson Law, P.C., at (319) 294-4424 for a free legal consultation. We are ready to help you pursue justice against the negligent medical professional who caused your child to suffer unnecessary harm.
